Greencastle

James Michael (Mike) Beck, age 69, of Greencastle, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2016.

He was born February 10, 1947, in Columbus, Indiana, and was the son of Patricia (Wertz)Thackery and Todd Beck. He graduated from Hauser High School in 1965 and graduated with honors from Indiana University in 1977 with a BSEd.

He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and received a U.S. Commendation medal of service. He was also a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He enjoyed running and was an avid marathon runner. He also enjoyed completing crossword puzzles, taking pictures and spending time with his grandchildren. He devoted much of his career to working at Black’s Lumber.

He was a member of Big Walnut Baptist Church, Reelsville, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by Brenda (Phillips) Beck.

He is survived by his sisters, Jennifer (Pat) Rafferty of Columbus and Judith (Gary) Koors of Greensburg; his brother, John (Janet) Beck of South Bend; his daughters, Rachel Beck, Jane (Brian) Beck Archer and Amy Hammond; a son, Michael (Joanne) Beck; 14 grandchildren, Alexis, Abigail, Ashli, Anthony, Maria, Veronica, Felicity, Joshua, Theodric, Elizabeth, Breanna, Kaylee, John and Lucas; and one great-grandchild, Aubrianna.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, January 15, 2017, at Big Walnut Baptist Church, Reelsville Indiana.
