Archie Raymond Snyder Jr., 81, of Columbus, died Thursday at 6:15 p.m. at Silver Oaks Health Campus.

Born in Columbus on December 30, 1935, he was the son of Archie R. and Marjorie Kelly Snyder. He married Patricia Kay Hutton on November 22, 1958, in Columbus. Archie was a 1953 graduate of Columbus High School, he graduated from Franklin College in 1959 where he played football and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He later attended Purdue University to study foundry technology. He was a longtime member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church where he served as an elder and former chairman of the Congregation and School Boards. He had worked for Golden Foundry from 1954-1981 as technical director and later worked for Cummins Engine Company from 1981-2001 as technical advisor. He was a member of the American Foundryman Society, an avid IU basketball fan, enjoyed his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, attending auctions and antique collecting. He was a 47-year member of the PAL Club where he was a former coach, vice president and a board member.

Archie is survived by his three daughters, Archele Ann Humes, Taylorsville, Sabrina Susan (Gary) Myers and Jena Joann Snyder, Columbus; grandchildren, Lindsay Hutton Land, Bloomington, Kaleigh Ruth (Zach) Morey, Olivia Irene Humes and Mallory Mary Myers and Trey Vincent, all of Columbus; a great granddaughter, Annaya Kay Humes, Taylorsville; and a sister, Tammy (Steve) Urso, Chesapeake, Virginia.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Patricia Kay Snyder in May of 2000; and two sisters, Judy Weaver-Thomas and Brenda Snyder.

Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Patrick Galligar officiating. Burial will follow in Garland Brook Cemetery.
