‘Celebrate U’ event for girls set

Foundation for Youth is sponsoring a “Celebrate U” event from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Jan. 22 for girls in grades 5-8.

The event asks participating girls to bring their “female champion” who could be their mother, grandmother, aunt or close family friend.

Guest speaker will be 2009 Miss America Katie Stam, a native of the Crothersville/Seymour area.

In addition to Stam’s keynote speech, breakout sessions will discuss bullying, healthy lifestyles, setting boundaries, how to be a leader, beauty and manners tips and more.

Registration fee is $15.

Sponsors including the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department, Foundation for Youth and First United Methodist Church, with support from Harrison College.

To register, visit Foundation for Youth at 405 Hope Ave. between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday or from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. Registration may also be done at Donner Center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays or by calling 812-376-2680 with credit card information.
