Vernon L. Pike, 76, of Columbus, died at 1:25 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Mr. Pike was born Dec. 28, 1940, in Columbia, Kentucky, to William and Zelma Bryant Pike.

He married Peggy A. Hupp Oct. 8, 1961.

Mr. Pike was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. A long time truck driver, Mr. Pike was the owner of the former Pike’s Trucking and most recently drove for Columbus Container. He enjoyed membership in the American Legion Post 24, Eagles Lodge No. 741 and Columbus Moose Lodge No. 398, and he had a passion for playing cards.

Mr. Pike is survived by his wife of 55 years, Peggy; sons, Darrell and Craig Pike of Columbus; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters; three brothers; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, T.R. Pike; sister, Vida Stosenburg; and a brother, Clay Pike.

The funeral will be conducted at noon Wednesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike with Pastor Eli Johnson officiating. Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday. The committal service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fairview Cemetery in Brownstown.
