JoAnne Amick, 86, of North Vernon, passed away at 2:40 p.m. Monday, January 9, 2017, at Silver Oaks Health Campus in Columbus.

Born August 7, 1930, in New Washington, Mrs. Amick was the daughter of the late Joe Stearns and May Ricketts Johnson. She married Melvin Morton Amick on July 1, 1953, in North Vernon; he preceded her in death on March 20, 1996.

Mrs. Amick was a 1948 graduate of North Vernon High School and attended Ball State University. Mrs. Amick was co-owner of Amick’s Family Restaurant in North Vernon for 25 years retiring in 1988. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Psi Ota Psi and Jennings Hospital Guild, all in North Vernon. Her hobbies included listening to Christian music, family time, watching birds and animals.

Survivors include her son, Tim (Steve Jenkins) Amick of Indianapolis; daughter, Kim (Raymond) Graham of North Vernon; sisters, Marilyn (Bob) Taylor and Karen Huelson, both of North Vernon; half-sisters, Barbara (Bill) Bevers of Columbus and Donna (Bob) Hammond of Otisco; and grandson, Kyle Graham of North Vernon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Stearns and May Ricketts Johnson; husband, Melvin Amick; infant son and daughter (twins); and brother, Jack Stearns.

A funeral service for Mrs. Amick will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, January 13, 2017, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon with the Rev. Joe Wyatt officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until service time Friday, January 13, 2017. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the First United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
