Local Democrats hope to have a ball Jan. 20

On the same day President-elect Donald Trump is sworn into office in Washington, D.C., the Bartholomew County Democratic Party will host a social event locally to generate renewed hope for the future, party officials said.

The Jan. 20 event, which begins at 7 p.m. at 1417 Chestnut St., is described in a news release as a ball, since there will be more than 80 unofficial inauguration balls conducted nationwide that night.

But don’t plan on dancing or dressing up in formal attire if attending this event at the local party headquarters, spokesman Bob Pitman said.

“This event is for socializing, fellowship — and perhaps for rallying Democrats,” Pitman said. “We’re just getting together to enjoy each others’ company, and to let folks know our party is alive and well.”

People of any party leanings or affiliation are welcome to attend, the release stated.

Guests are asked to dress casually, bring a snack to share and their choice of refreshments, the release stated.
