PITTSBURGH — A guard has been suspended from the state prison in Pittsburgh and charged with beating an inmate then lying about it in a report he filed.

WTAE-TV (http://bit.ly/2jI3sla ) reports 37-year-old Bobby Hall, of Monaca, was charged Wednesday with simple assault, official oppression and unsworn falsification to authorities. Official oppression is using one’s government-granted powers illegally. The falsification charge pertains to the report Hall filed in the Dec. 10 incident.

Investigators say Hall hit the inmate in the face, then handcuffed the inmate and threw him toward a cell door. The inmate fell and suffered injuries to his ear, face and head.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for Hall, who faces a preliminary hearing March 2. A call to his listed phone number didn’t go through and said his voicemail wasn’t accepting messages Thursday.
