SALEM, W.Va. — A sheriff says four people have died and three others were injured when a pickup truck crossed a median and collided with a flatbed truck in northern West Virginia.

Sheriff Robert Matheny tells media outlets that the accident happened about 6 p.m. Wednesday along U.S. Route 50 near Salem, west of Clarksburg.

Matheny says the cause of the accident remains under investigation. He says the westbound pickup went across a median into the eastbound lanes and struck a commercial flatbed truck. A car also was involved in the accident.

All four of the dead were in the pickup truck. The victims’ names weren’t immediately released. One person in the pickup was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

Matheny says the drivers of the truck and car had minor injuries.
