MENDENHALL, Miss. — A Simpson County inmate has died in jail.

Local media outlets report that 35-year-old Herman Lindsey of Jackson was found unresponsive in his jail cell Tuesday morning.

Sheriff Donald O’Cain says a nurse tried to revive Lindsey and paramedics were called, but the inmate had died.

WAPT-TV reports that Lindsey had been in jail since being arrested on New Year’s Eve on a drug charge.

His body was sent to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy. O’Cain says there were no signs of foul play.

The investigation has been turned over to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
