CAMDEN, N.J. — Authorities say a police officer shot a man in Camden after he fired at a woman and an infant in an apartment.
Camden County prosecutors say 38-year-old Jose Fernandez-Ventura opened fire on Wednesday morning while the woman was holding an 8-month-old child on her lap.
The woman was taken to Cooper University Hospital, but the baby was not hurt.
Police responding to a 911 call reporting a domestic violence incident shot Fernandez-Ventura multiple times. Neither his condition nor the woman’s were released by police.
Fernandez-Ventura was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child and weapons possession.
It wasn’t immediately clear if he had an attorney to comment on his behalf.
The officer has been placed on administrative leave while the prosecutor’s office investigates whether the use of force was justified.
