North fifth in conference

INDIANAPOLIS — Andrew Chapman won the 170-pound weight class Saturday to lead Columbus North to a fifth-place finish in the Conference Indiana Tournament.

Second-ranked Perry Meridian won the title with 293 1/2 points. Franklin Central finished second with 169, followed by Bloomington South (158½), Bloomington North (152) and the Bull Dogs (110).

Chapman scored a 6-0 decision against Terre Haute North’s Ike Murrell in the finals at 170. Columbus North’s Brigham Kleinhenz (182) and Josh Larson (195) lost in the finals to finish second.

Also for the Bull Dogs, Keandre Watson finished third at 113. Morgan Smith (106) and Bradley Gutierrez (220) took fourth, and Nick Miller (120) and Nick Holt (160) were sixth.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Jets rally past Indians

MILAN — Hauser rallied from a 10-point second-half deficit to pull out a 58-55 win at Milan.

Connor Wilson scored 24 points to lead the Jets (7-6), who bounced back from a last-second loss to Lawrenceburg on Friday. Justin Compton added 13.

Grizzly Cubs top Lancers

WHITELAND — Edinburgh outscored Franklin over the first and fourth quarters, but the Grizzly Cubs outscored the Lancers 36-9 between the second and third periods to claim a 71-45 win in the fifth-place game of the Johnson County Tournament.

Parker Bryant led the Lancers (4-11) with 13 points. Cam Cravens added 12.

South Decatur falls twice

South Decatur dropped its first two Mid-Hoosier Conference games over the weekend. The Cougars (7-7, 0-2) fell 76-71 at Southwestern (Shelby) on Friday.

South Decatur was coming off a 74-59 MHC loss at Morristown on Friday. The Cougars were within two at halftime.

Matt Cornett led South Decatur with 26 points and 12 rebounds. Nick Benge added 11 points.
