Joanne Q. Spangler, 83, a former Columbus resident, died January 4, 2017, in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.

She was born in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, October 8, 1932, the daughter of George R. and Emily J. Haidle Quick. She married John S. Spangler November 1, 1958, in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania. He preceded her in death on January 24, 2003. Joanne graduated from New Cumberland High School and attended Susquehanna University. She was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and Past President of Women’s Auxiliary, National Asphalt Pavement Association. She was a former member of North Christian Church and the Harrison Lake Country Club and had been a legal secretary.

Joanne funded two women’s basketball scholarships to Pennsylvania State University and two academic scholarships to Susquehanna University.

She is survived by son, J. Eric (Nikki) Spangler of Trafalgar, Indiana; brother, Jack (Jill) Quick of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Logan Borg Spangler of Chicago, J. Sequoia Spangler, J. Lake Spangler and J. River Spangler, all of Trafalgar.

She was preceded by her parents; her husband; and her brother, James Grier Quick.

A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at Four Seasons Retirement Center Chapel with Chaplain Phyllis Hawkins officiating. Calling will be from 10 a.m. until service time at the Chapel. Private internment will be in Garland Brook Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.hathaway-myers.com.
