A driver and passenger were arrested after Columbus police stopped them for erratic driving.
Just after 3 a.m Saturday, Columbus Police Sgt. Josh McCrary stopped a vehicle on Fairlawn Drive after the vehicle crossed the center line three times, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
After smelling alcohol on the motorist’s breath, McCrary had the driver — identified as Michael T. Olson, 42, 4231 31st St. — take a portable breath test, Harris said. The portable breath sample for Olson was .318 percent, nearly four times over the legal limit, Harris said. Olson then refused to submit to a chemical breath test, Harris said. Olson was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle under the influence, Harris said. Officers obtained a search warrant for a blood draw which was approved and Olson was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital, and then later to the Bartholomew County Jail.
Officers also talked with Olson’s passenger, Clayton B. Perry, 28, 2683 N. Talley Road, who they described as being “confrontational,” Harris said. Perry was released by officers but be continued to use profanity and refused to calm down as he walked down the street, Harris said. Police ordered Perry to stop, but he then began running from officers, Harris said. Perry was found in the backyard of a nearby residence, and then arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting law enforcement, Harris said.
