Safe Kids group warns of TV tipover danger

Although many parents worry how their young children might be affected by TV programs, the television itself can pose a danger — without even being turned on.

One child dies from a television tipping over every three weeks, with nearly 13,000 more injured annually, according to a news release from Safe Kids Bartholomew County.

Research from a 2012 reports shows a 31 percent increase in TV tip-over accidents during a 10-year period.

The findings were released by the nonprofit Safe Kids Worldwide organization, using data from the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Parents of young children are reminded that taller stands, wall mounts and TV straps are available at many retail outlets to prevent accidents.
