Athletes of the Week – January 19

MALE

Andrew Chapman, Columbus North junior wrestler

Chapman went 3-0 to win the 170-pound division in Saturday’s Conference Indiana meet. He also won matches by injury default at Seymour and by decision at Columbus East.

His performance last week: “I feel really good about my performance. I wrestled hard and did my best.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “Cut the weight and practice hard all week”

Favorite drink: “Gatorade”

Favorite food: “Steak”

Favorite book: “The Hunger Games”

Favorite class: “Math. I’m really good with numbers.”

Role model: “My older cousin, Chase (Chapman). He wrestled here, and I’ve always looked up to him.”

Best advice: “Stick with it, and always do your best because one day you won’t be able to wrestle anymore. Live it up while you can because one day you won’t have it.”

Athletics goal: “I want to be an NCAA champion.”

If you could travel anywhere: “I’d want to go to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, because it’s the richest country in the world, and I’d like to see how they live compared to how we live.”

FEMALE

Olivia Morlok, Columbus North freshman swimmer

Morlok won the 500-yard freestyle and finished third in the 200 freestyle in Saturday’s Conference Indiana meet. She also swam on the second-place 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay teams.

Her performance last week: “It was really exciting to have my first conference meet, and I think our whole team did pretty good.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I just make sure that I eat good food and that I don’t psyche myself out in my head. I just stay mentally focused and race hard.”

Favorite drink: “Water and sometimes Powerade”

Favorite food: “During meets, I always eat Gatorade chews and Goldfish.”

Favorite book: “Book Thief”

Favorite class: “Math”

Role model: “I really look up to my club coach, (Jennifer) Brinegar) and (Olympian) Katie Ledecky. She’s a really good distance swimmer”

Best advice: “Stay focused on goals and make sure that each day, you keep those in mind and work hard for that.”

Athletics goal: “This season, I just want to get back down to my best 500 time (5 minutes, 3 seconds) and see what I can do at sectional, and qualifying for state would be really great.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Somewhere hot with a beach because I like the beach.”
