Dancing With the Stars fundraiser grooves its way to $80,034

“Dancing With the Stars — Columbus Style” generated $80,000 for two nonprofit agencies during Saturday shows that combined drew about 1,000 people.

Family School Partners and Children Inc., both local nonprofit agencies, will split the proceeds, said Stacy Findlay, director of Family School Partners.

The total exceeded organizers’ expectations, Findley said.

Christine Nesci of Sky Sport Fitness and dancing partner Tim Green of QMIX radio won first place by raising the most funds by about a $5,000 margin via monetary votes, organizers said.

There was a tie for the People’s Choice Award, awarded most votes from the audience, between Judge Kelly Benjamin and partner youth minister Matt Nieman, and Bartholomew Consolidated Schools Corp. administrator Larry Perkinson and dance instructor Diane Clancy.

“Dancing With the Stars  — Columbus Style” has raised more than $530,000 over the event’s nine years years for the two United Way agencies, organizers said.
