Ralph E. Manlief, 74, of North Vernon passed away at 5:55 a.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2017, at his residence.

He was born January 24, 1942, the son of Woodrow L. and Wanda Marie (Huey) Manlief. He was born and raised in Westport and has been a Jennings County resident since 1962.

He graduated from Sandcreek High School in 1960. He was a meat cutter for over 20 years at Just Rite, Clarkson’s Market and Anderson Grocery. He was also a school bus driver since 1985. Ralph was a member of Sardinia Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Westport Community Building Board, Odd Fellow Lodge # 681, Trustee for Columbia Township for 16 years, Jennings County Fair Board and Farm Bureau member since 1970, where he had served as a board member. He enjoyed baseball and basketball games, NASCAR races and going to the Smoky Mountains. He married Lois G. Low on October 14, 1962, in Westport and she survives.

Other survivors include his daughters, Diane Marie (Jeff) Maschino and Joyce (Daniel) Mays of North Vernon; sister, Carolyn Martin of Greensburg; brother, Carl Manlief of Westport; grandchildren, Emily Davis, Jacob Maschino and Christopher Maschino, all of North Vernon; and two step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home at Westport with the Rev. Tom Rust officiating. Burial will follow at the Westport Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, January 23, 2017, at the funeral home.
