Brian’s picks – January 26

Selecting the greatest hits, if you will, of “Aesop’s Fables” would be akin to picking your favorite Godiva chocolate. Challenging as that may be, the Bright Star Touring Co. is doing precisely that as the Columbus Area Arts Council presents Old National Bank’s First Fridays For Families’ from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Feb. 3 at The Commons, 300 Washington St. in Columbus. The animal-filled adventures are free. Information: 812-376-2539 or artsincolumbus.org.

Columbus resident Art Hopkins is going to tell you to take a hike — literally. He will present “Walking in Beauty: A Hike Across the Grand Canyon” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Bartholomew County Public Library, 536 Fifth St. in Columbus. OK, so even if you aren’t literally going to hoof it, you can experience the trip with him as he recounts his 2011 and 2016 journeys via pictures. In the free presentation, he will highlight hazards, preparation, equipment and other aspects. Information: 812-379-1266 or mybcpl.org.
