Darrell K. Mace, 74, of Columbus, passed from this life at 4:31 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Mr. Mace was born November 15, 1942, in Columbus, the son of William J. and Martha West Mace. He married Caroline A. Palmer February 21, 1960.

Mr. Mace was a U.S. Navy veteran where he was stationed in Antarctica. He was honorably discharged November 7, 1963. Mr. Mace was a retired truck driver and a former dirt track racer. An outdoorsman, Mr. Mace enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He also enjoyed playing on his heavy equipment and playing with the penguins while he was stationed in Antarctica.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 57 years, Caroline; daughters, Candy (Brian) Turner of Columbus, Pam (Rick) Jessie of Columbus, Ginger (Terry) Burris of Elizabethtown, Sharon (Steve) Morrow of Columbus, Melissa (Dale) Fisher of Madison and Rebecca (Larry Newby) Watkins of North Vernon; a brother, Ronald (Sandy) Mace of Edinburgh; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Mace was preceded in death by his parents and brother, William Mace.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Wayne Lee officiating. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday.

Burial will be at Bethel Baptist Cemetery. Full military rites will be presented by the U.S. Navy Ceremonial Unit and the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
