Two Indianapolis residents were arrested after a traffic stop on Interstate 65 near Columbus after a Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputy found sheets of printed, uncut money and a printer in their vehicle.
The driver, David Young, 35, 509 E. Lincoln St., Indianapolis, was arrested on charges of fraud, possession of a legend drug, identity deception, possession of marijuana, false informing and possession of paraphernalia, deputies said.
The passenger, Chastity Martin, 20, 410 E. Raymond St., Indianapolis, was arrested on charges of possession of paraphernalia and false informing, deputies said.
Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Deputy Leah Burton was driving southbound on I-65 at about 1:34 a.m. Saturday when she saw Young’s out-of-state vehicle traveling in front of her. After the vehicle made several abrupt lane changes without signaling, Burton attempted to stop it at the Columbus exit, deputies said. However, the vehicle stopped on the bridge south of the exit.
Burton made contact with Martin, who appeared to be under the influence, deputies said. Martin also had a warrant for her arrest out of Hendricks County, deputies said.
After a Columbus Police Department K9 was sent to the scene, the dog alerted to the presence of drugs in the vehicle, deputies said. Investigators found sheets of printed, uncut money, a printer and printing ink commonly used to print counterfeit money. They also found several checkbooks and cash, deputies said.
When the name on the checkbooks did not match the name of the driver, investigators determined Young had given Burton a false name.
