Swimmers move to finals

Columbus North, Columbus East and Trinity Lutheran all put swimmers into Saturday’s finals of the North Sectional with top-eight finishes in Thursday’s preliminaries.

North’s Darby Coles is the top seed in the 100-yard freestyle after a 52.93-second clocking. Alex Nusawardhana is seeded second in both the 100 butterfly (59.34) and 100 backstroke (1:00.78), Coles is third in the 50 freestyle (24.55) and Olivia Morlok is third in the 500 freestyle (5:21.95). The Bull Dogs are second in the 400 freestyle relay (3:42.66) and third in the 200 medley (2:00.23) and 200 freestyle (1:46.12) relays.

East’s Whitley Eicher, Jennifer Utterback, Lizzy Frazier and Cortney VanLiew swam the fastest qualifying time in the 200 freestyle relay (1:44.32) and third-fastest in the 400 freestyle relay (3:50.32). Eicher is fourth in the 100 butterfly (1:00.85), and VanLiew is fifth in the 50 freestyle (25.13) and 100 freestyle (55.59).

Trinity’s Rachel Sabotin has the fastest times in both the 200 freestyle (1:57.38) and 500 freestyle (5:09.73).

BOYS BASKETBALL

Grizzly Cubs top Eagles

FRANKLIN — Brown County outscored Franklin in the second half, but couldn’t overcome a 15-point halftime deficit in a 72-63 loss.

Josh Cochran led the Eagles (3-13) with 14 points. Isaiah Keefauver added 12, and Eli Patterson had 10.

Woodmen down Lancers

EDINBURGH — Edinburgh played Class 4A Greenwood tough, but the Woodmen pulled out a 62-56 victory.

Coltan Henderson led the Lancers (5-15) with 17 points. Parker Bryant added 12, and Justin Fosskuhl and Cam Cravens each had 11.
