Around Town – February 4

Orchids to …

• the state Republicans for changing their bill that gave Indiana’s top leaders huge pay raises and instead asking for a study comparing current salaries to those in other states.

• Ashlee at The Republic for her excellent customer service and for delivering our paper after business hours, from Bryon and Judy.

• members of the new administration who are trying to govern as those who elected them expected.

• volunteers in the resistance.

• Joe Donnelly for listening to your constituents.

• Don Ballman, whom we will miss, on 17 years of volunteering at Love Chapel Food Pantry.

• the Columbus Police Department for trying to slow people down who are speeding on Goeller Boulevard because it’s not a raceway.

• Denny Kubal and Dustin Renner for their letters to the editor.

• the new administration for doing what their predecessors should have done.

• our local forms of media for reporting the news and keeping us informed.

• Franciscan physicians in Columbus for very professional, confidential and complete care received at your office as well as at the Emerson Avenue location, from Robert and Joyce.

Onions to …

• those who support the new administration that has managed to needlessly insult America’s longtime allies and antagonize our enemies.

• those who think the president acted unconstitutionally by signing his order on immigration, because you should check the McCarran-Walter Act of 1952 signed by Democratic President Harry Truman and used by Democratic President Jimmy Carter.

• the salesperson who calls several times a day wanting to sell me extra insurance or get me a lower credit card rate even though I’m on the no-call list.

• people who don’t know that stray cats roam.

• those who don’t realize that cashiers aren’t required to take rolled money as payment because there’s a possibility of slugs inside of the roll, but that they do have to take unrolled money as long as the person helps count it out.

• those who decry the new presidential administration, which will work and is for the common man.

• people who call animal control on dogs for destroying trash when those people don’t even put their trash in a trash can in the first place.

• those who don’t realize an immigration ban is not unconstitutional and has been done by six other presidents with no public outcry.

• anyone believing the entire world has a constitutional right to come here because it doesn’t work that way.

• the paper for not printing the plus number on the Hoosier lottery.
