Vectren completes new technology installation

Vectren has announced it has completed installing its automated meter reading devices throughout its 48-county service area in southeast and central Indiana.

The new technology enables Vectren to obtain actual meter readings from natural gas meters by driving routes, rather than walking, which increases the actual reads per day and eliminates issues of weather, animals and locked gates. The project to install the technology began in August 2015 and originally was scheduled to be completed this March, but finished ahead of schedule.

The new technology will be used to serve an estimated 580,000 customers, the company said. Implementing the new system is included in the company’s seven-year natural gas infrastructure modernization plan, which runs through 2020.
