A fatal traffic accident, a hazardous material spill and at least 50 other wrecks, including a 20-car pileup near Seymour, shut down Interstate 65 during the first major snowfall of the season.

1992

Area residents reported seeing a cloud of smoke over Camp Atterbury that turned out to be an annual controlled burn in areas of the camp where shells landing during training exercises could start fires.

1967

The fire that did more than $650,000 damage at the Belvedere Hotel didn’t touch the 22-caliber rifles, 10,000 rounds of ammunition and other equipment in the Optimist Club’s indoor shooting range in the hotel’s basement.
