Woman arrested on theft charge after fleeing police

Columbus police arrested a local woman after she was accused of taking more than $1,600 worth of video games from an electronics store and fleeing from police.

Officers arrested Stevie N. Hammond Badger, 31, 611 Kelli Drive, Columbus, on charges of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, theft with a previous conviction and driving while suspended with a prior conviction, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Police were sent to Best Buy at 1343 N. National Road at 1 p.m. Wednesday after they were told a shoplifter was fleeing the store and had driven away with video games, Harris said.

Hammond Badger is accused of driving through two yards in an effort to evade officers, Harris said.

After that, police ended their pursuit but later located Hammond Badger in the 1000 block of Kelli Drive, where she was arrested.

She is being held without bond in the Bartholomew County Jail, jail officials said.
