Lyle Ault

Lyle Edward Ault, 78, of Freetown was born Jan. 28, 1939, in Spraytown to Kenneth and Claribel Noble Ault. He died Feb. 18, 2017, at Schneck Medical Center ICU unit with his loving family by his side.

Lyle loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed watching sports – especially when his children and grandchildren were playing. He loved to travel, go to races, to breakfast and “the shack” with his friends.

He was a first class member of the Pershing Township Volunteer Fire Department for 56 years, and was a member of the Freetown Church of Christ and the Seymour American Legion.

Lyle lived his entire life in Jackson County and built the family home in Spraytown with his wife. While growing up, he worked on the family farm with his Grandpa Ault and did construction work with his uncle, Ernie Ault. He worked at Cummins in Columbus for 22 years and then worked for several construction companies, including Skaggs Builders.

Lyle married Marilyn Rhea Anderson on July 13, 1957.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter, Briana Ault.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn and children, Shelly (Kirk) Doran, Deirdre (Alan) Axsom and Brian (Tracy) Ault; grandchildren, Colin and Shea Doran, Jason, John and Daphane Gray, Jake and Amanda Axsom, Baylee Bowman, Ben Ault and Chandler Hutchinson; and great-grandchildren, Joseph Gray, Darrien Wolf, Serenity Gray and Koltyn Hunter. He is also survived by his sister, Marilyn McKinney and brother, Roger Weddell.

Memorials may be made to the Freetown Church of Christ or the Pershing Township Fire Department.

Mr. Ault’s family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of Schneck Medical Center ICU for their compassion and dedication in caring for Lyle.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Freetown Church of Christ. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. The funeral will begin at 11 a.m., conducted by Barry DeWitt. Burial will follow at the Spraytown Cemetery.
