Abbott Forrester Garn, 15, of Columbus, died as the result of an accident at 11:53 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2017, at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Abbott was a sophomore at Columbus East High School where he was an honor student and a member of the football and baseball teams.

Coaches, faculty and staff at Columbus East High School were quoted as saying that he was a great young man and a valued team member, as well as a positive asset to the class and the school. They went on to say that he was funny, well liked, positive, interesting and easy to connect with.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Westside Community Church. Family and friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church. Cremation is planned following the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Abbott Forrester Garn Scholarship Fund through the funeral home.

Abbott was born in Bloomington, July 9, 2001, to Adam and Jackie Ayer Garn.

Survivors include his parents and his sister, Ella Garn, all of Columbus; grandparents, Georgiann Ayer of Nashville, Mary Ellen (John) Wyman of Columbus; James Garn of Tennessee and Walt DeArmitt of Columbus; great-grandmother, Jacquelyn Warner of Texas; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, George Ayer; and his great-grandparents, Mary Jean Anable, Robert Garn and Evelyn Garn.

Abbott truly loved, and was loved by, his friends!
