Betty A. Hines, 83, formerly of Columbus, passed away peacefully at 1:35 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2017, at the Masonic Home in Franklin.

Betty was born Aug. 27, 1933, in Dana, Indiana. She was the daughter of George Calvin Ammerman and Enid Westbrook Carmack. Betty had three siblings, Calvin Rollin Ammerman, Bonnie Lou Ammerman Knowles and Rosalie Ammerman Benti. All preceded her in death.

After graduating from Dana High School, she moved to Columbus, Indiana, where she met John William Hines. They were married Feb. 14, 1954, and continued to live in Columbus until his passing in 2001. In 2004 she went to live with her niece, Carrie Schmutte, and family in Brownsburg. Her last move was to the Masonic Home in Franklin on Feb. 13, 2017. Mrs. Hines was a member of the Order Of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. She was also a member of First Christian Church and the Dorcas Circle.

Survivors include nine nieces and nephews, many great-nieces and -nephews and many great-great-nieces and -nephews. Betty will be greatly missed.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Dan Wallace officiating. Calling will be from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
