Byrd B. Napier, 71, of North Dellasburg Road, died at 2:35 p.m. February 20, 2017, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Byrd was born May 10, 1945, in Hazard, Kentucky, the son of Patrick Henry and Celia Pennington Napier. He married Hazel Davidson Oct. 10, 1970.

He was employed at Arvin’s for 43 years before retiring in 2007.

He loved to sing and play the guitar. He also loved to piddle in his garage and was especially dangerous with duct tape and a sharpie. He would tinker and fix anything.

Byrd loved children. Often you would find the neighborhood children playing in his garage. He also loved spending time with his family, especially his grandsons. He had a heart of gold and was willing to do anything for anyone.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 23, 2017, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society through the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Amanda (David Timmons) Napier of Franklin and Monica (Michael) Morris of Seymour; brothers, Bill Napier of Urbana, Ohio, Jack (Ruth) Johnson of Florida, Junior (Debbie) Johnson and Logan Johnson, both of Sunman and Carl Johnson of Moores Hill; sisters, Lexia Johnson, Carolyn Johnson, Joan Bowcock and Edna (Harold) Hines; grandchildren, Bryan Sturgill, Justin (Emily) Bailey, Tristan Bailey and Matthew Bailey; and a great-granddaughter, Ayva Grace Bailey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Tom, Ernie, Larry and Andy Napier; and sisters, Violet McFadden, Henrietta Moberly and Virginia Thompson.
