Man plans hike to benefit United Way

A Columbus man is trying to help raise money for the United Way of Bartholomew County by hiking a 96-mile trail in Scotland.

Justin Clason plans to hike the West Highland Way trail through the Scottish highlands starting May 27. The trip is one he’s planned for a few years, and the distance is twice as long as he’s previously hiked.

“Rather than just hike it and that be it, I thought I would do this for a good cause,” he said.

He is trying to raise awareness of his plan with a Facebook page and is seeking donations through a GoFundMe page. Clason said he plans to donate 75 percent of the money to the United Way of Bartholomew County and the rest to the Hoosier Hikers Council, based in Martinsville.

Clason has set a $2,000 fundraising goal and added that none of the money raised would pay for his trip.
