John R. Fischer, 73, of Taylorsville, died at 5:20 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 2017, at Hickory Creek of Franklin.

Mr. Fischer was born July 28, 1943, in Johnson County, to Richard J. and Rosemary E. Lyons Fischer. He married Helen E. LaRue October 14, 1967. She preceded him in death August 15, 2016.

Mr. Fischer was a U.S. Army veteran stationed in Germany just prior to the Vietnam era. He worked in different areas at Cummins Engine Company and retired from facility maintenance in 1994. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, was a former member of the Masonic Lodge and he enjoyed fishing and gardening.

Survivors include his sons, John (Wendy) Fischer III of Azalia and Lonnie (Kessha) Fischer of Columbus; a daughter, Jonna of Brownstown; grandchildren, Eli, Jaala, Oliver, Tanner and Kohen Fischer; a sister, Nancy (John) Earhart of Mooresville; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Fischer was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and a sister, Judy Phillips.

The funeral will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Lonny Goen officiating. Family and friends may call from 4 p.m. until service time Thursday. Military honors will be presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard. Cremation will take place following the service.
