Jonathan Foster, Columbus East senior basketball player

Foster scored 20 points to lead the Olympians to a 79-64 upset of Class 4A No. 9 Floyd Central to close the regular season.

His performance last week: “I think we played well. As a team, we were working well together and had a lot of fun. Some shots fell for me that typically don’t always fall, and some guys found me in some positions to put some points on the board.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “We always watch film and do a lot of practicing against what teams like to do.”

Favorite drink: “Gatorade”

Favorite food: “Steak”

Favorite book: “The Bible”

Favorite class: “Statistics”

Role model: “My older brother (Jordan Foster) is a very big role model for me.”

Best advice: “Nothing in life is given to you. You have to work for everything.”

Athletics goal: “One of my biggest goals is to be able to play college sports, and I’ve achieved that. I’m going to play college baseball at Taylor University.”

If you could travel anywhere: “I’d have to say Hawaii just because I’ve heard a lot about it, and it’s really pretty.”

Claire Thompson, Columbus North junior gymnast

Thompson finished second on the vault and floor and third on the bars on her way to a second-place all-around finish to help lead the Bull Dogs to the Columbus East Sectional title.

Her performance last week: “Definitely, I could do better on a few things, but I thought overall it was good.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I try to keep myself calm in whatever way I can and really focus and go through my routines on how I want them to go.”

Favorite drink: “Sprite”

Favorite food: “Steak”

Favorite book: “The Divergent Series”

Favorite class: “Math”

Role model: “My mom (Jana Thompson)”

Best advice: “Never give up, and always stay positive and work your hardest.”

Athletics goal: “As a team, I’d like to all hit 4 for 4 at state again.”

If you could travel anywhere: “California. I’m going for spring break, so that will be gone after this year.”
