Man accused of attacking wife with screwdriver

Columbus police arrested a local man after he was accused of attacking his wife with a screwdriver.

Eleazar N. Martinez Gonzalez, 36, 3145 Sycamore St., was arrested on charges of felony domestic battery with a deadly weapon causing bodily injury and felony domestic battery in the presence of a minor, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Police were sent to an apartment in the 3100 block of Sycamore Street at 4:55 a.m. Thursday about a stabbing in progress, Harris said.

Officers located the victim, an adult female who was injured in an upstairs bedroom with Martinez Gonzalez.

The two were struggling over a closed pocket knife in the bedroom when officers arrived, Harris said. Police confiscated a screwdriver and the pocket knife at the scene.

The woman was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital for treatment of multiple stab wounds to her head and torso, but is expected to recover, Harris said.

Martinez Gonzalez is being held in the Bartholomew County Jail with no bond, jail officials said.
