Michael E Murphy, age 78, of Melbourne, Florida, passed away in his home with family present on Friday, February 24, 2017.

Michael was born on April 28, 1938, and spent his entire childhood in Columbus, Indiana. He went to Purdue University, and then earned his law degree at Indiana University. He served 25 years as a lawyer (known as a JAG) for the United States Air Force from 1963-1988, earning the rank of Lt. Colonel. He traveled all over the world, and then spent all of his retirement years in Melbourne, Florida.

He is survived by his mother, Jane F. Murphy, of Columbus; his wife, Chin Hwa Murphy, of Melbourne, Florida; and his five children, Mark (Lana) Murphy of Noblesville; Matt Murphy (Jennifer) of Loveland, Ohio; Mallory Murphy (Becky), Michele Murphy and Mary Murphy of Melbourne, Florida. He had seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

His father, Herschel E Murphy, of Columbus, preceded him in death.

In his retirement, Michael loved his friends and being in the choir at the South Patrick Air Force Base chapel, where friends and family paid tribute to him on March 2nd.

Michael was laid to rest at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery on March 2, 2017, with full military honors.
