Father, daughter arrested on drug charges in North Vernon

NORTH VERNON — Two people were arrested on drug-related charges after North Vernon Police served search warrants on a home and vehicle.

The search warrants were served at 9 a.m. Thursday at a home at 1680 W. Locust Grove St., said Sgt. Andrew Richmond, North Vernon Police Department spokesman.

Troy Lewis, 50, who lives at the West Locust Grove Street address in North Vernon, was arrested on charges of felony dealing in marijuana and misdemeanor possession of marijuana, Richmond said.

Kaitlyn Lewis, 24, his daughter, who also lives in North Vernon, was arrested on charges of felony dealing in a controlled substance, felony possession of a syringe and misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia, Richmond said.

Officer Seth Beville directed the investigation that led to the search warrant at the home, site of a March 4 drug overdose, Richmond said.

During a search of the home, officers found a large number of baggies commonly used to package heroin and methamphetamine for sale, Richmond said. Officers also found weight scales, syringes, spoons, cash and ledgers, Richmond said.

North Vernon K9 Heros alerted to the odor of drugs inside a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado parked in the driveway at the home, Richmond said.

A search warrant was obtained for the truck and officers found more than 60 grams of marijuana, scales, baggies and a smoking pipe inside the vehicle, Richmond said.

Troy Lewis and Kaitlyn Lewis are both being held in the Jennings County Jail in lieu of $1,055 bond, jail officials said.
