An Edinburgh pastor was arrested Wednesday after police said he threatened to harm an officer during a dispute over a fine he was facing.
Larry Biddle, 74, of Edinburgh, was arrested on charges of intimidation and resisting law enforcement.
Biddle confronted an officer at the Edinburgh Police Department at about 1:30 p.m. over a citation he had received for his recreational vehicle, which was parked behind his church and home, an Edinburgh Police Department report said. Biddle is listed as the pastor of Edinburgh Wesleyan Church in its online church directory.
Trash was piled outside on the ground and an open septic line was leaking fluid, the report said.
While discussing the citation with the officer, Biddle demanded to see a copy of the law that said he couldn’t live in a recreational vehicle on his property and then snatched a copy of the citation out of the officer’s hands, the report said.
After the officer told Biddle to calm down, Biddle pointed at the officer, saying, “You’re lucky I don’t get a hold of you and knock you to the floor,” the report said.
The officer told Biddle that he was under arrest, and Biddle then sat on the floor and refused to put his hands behind his back, the report said. Biddle, 502 N. Clay St., was arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail. He was released on $2,200 bond.
