A member of the Ohio National Guard who died Friday during a training exercise at Camp Atterbury suffered a heart attack.
Capt. Brian A. Stillman, 43, of Norton, Ohio, collapsed shortly before 12:30 p.m. Friday at the Atterbury training area, which is near the Bartholomew County/Johnson County line, according to the Ohio National Guard.
Stillman was pronounced dead at the scene by Charles Deweese, a senior deputy coroner, after Deweese was notified of the death at 2:09 p.m., Bartholomew County Coroner Clayton Nolting said.
The Guard member had collapsed during training exercises, and witnesses and medics attempted to resuscitate him, Nolting said.
Stillman’s cause of death is listed as acute thrombosis of the left anterior descending coronary artery, Nolting said.
Stillman was a 19-year member of the Ohio Army National Guard and an operations officer for the 2nd Battalion, 174th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, the Ohio National Guard said. He is survived by his wife and two children.
