Brian’s picks – March 16

I’ve known two of Celtica’s main members, founder and keyboardist Tammera Lane and guitarist/mandolin player Tim Dooley, for almost as long as I’ve appreciated spirited Celtic tunes. If you’ve never heard the group, know that its music has graced everything from the local Ethnic Expo international festival downtown to an Indiana Pacers’ halftime shows at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. And now you have two chances to see them: 7 p.m. Friday at Brown County Inn, 51 State Road 46 in Nashville and 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Red Room of the Bartholomew County Public Library, 536 Fifth St. in Columbus. Admission to the inn concert is $10. The library cowwncert is free. Information: celticaband.com; mybcpl.org.

Youngsters ages 4 to 10 can sharpen their knowledge of hockey to be as sharp as their blades at the Learn to Play Hockey session from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. Saturday at Hamilton Community Center and Ice Arena, 2501 Lincoln Park Drive in Columbus. $5 per child. Information: 812-376-2686.
