Columbus reacts to news of Penney’s store closing

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Here are reactions that people shared Friday afternoon after news was announced that the JCPenney store in Columbus would be closing in June.

— “What a bummer,” said Mary Jane Hooker, Columbus, a FairOaks Mall shopper. “It makes you wonder what will happen to the mall.”

— “There are lives that are being affected. These people are out friends. They are like family to us,” said Kim Eckrote-Showalter, FairOaks Mall general manager.

— “Financially, it’s tough to have a business anymore,” said Stephanie Crosby, manager of Kirlin’s Hallmark, which also announced recently that it would be closing.

— “There’s nothing in this mall,” said shopper Danielle Bello, Columbus.
