Edith Laverne (Brown) Denney, 83, of Columbus, passed away at 7:45 a.m. Friday March 17, 2017, at Columbus Regional Hospital. She was born May 12, 1933, in Lincoln County, Kentucky to the late Jonie and Laura (Cummins) Brown and has lived in Columbus for most of her life. She was a charter member of the Central Heights Church of God. She married Elmer Hobart Denney on April 16, 1949, and he preceded her in death on September 8, 2012.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. John Marquis officiating. Following the service, she will be laid to rest next to Elmer in Garland Brook Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Heights Church of God through the funeral home.
Laverne is survived by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, James and Clara Denney of Alert, Indiana, David and Lana Denney of Crab Orchard, Kentucky, John and Lydia Siler of Columbus and Manford and Dorothy Todd of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Jesse Brown; and two sisters, Marie Denney and Myrtle Kidd.
