Lester Perkinson

Lester E. Perkinson died at his home on March 17, 2017. He was born June 25, 1926, in Lexington, Indiana, the son of Charlie and Daisy LaMaster Perkinson. He married Lillie M. Petty on June 25,1948. They were inseparable for 71 years and married for almost 69 years.

Lester served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946 and was a Bronze Star recipient. He loved family, children, gardening, Tony Stewart racing and Columbus East and North wrestling. He retired from Hamilton Cosco and was, for many years, the treasurer of the Sandcreek-Azalia Friends Meetinghouse.

Survivors include his wife, Lillie; sister, Juanita Owens; sons, Larry (Julie), Gene (Susan) and Lester (Kelly); daughters, Linda Perkinson and Lynnette (David) Krueger; grandchildren, Charity Bateman, Kara Lay, Michelle (Ben) Rooks, Josh Perkinson, Ben (Katie) Krueger, Amanda Perkinson, Myra (Justin) Sims, Kristina Perkinson, Leland (Shannon) Perkinson Jr., Hannah Perkinson and Loretta and Renata Mize; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Graham and Cayden Rooks, Camden, Logan and Charlie Lay, Max McNeely, Ryleigh and Claire Bateman, Noah Sims, Josh Perkinson Jr., Vincent, Garrett, Amelia and Wren Perkinson; and beloved nieces and nephews.

Lester was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Brenda Kay; brothers, Charles, Robert and Claude; sister, Helen Stoner; and granddaughter, April Perkinson.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 20, at the Sandcreek-Azalia Friends Meetinghouse with Pastors Peggy Caldwell and Fred Darling officiating. Visitation will be from noon until time of service at the church. Burial will be at the Azalia Friends Cemetery.

Arrangements were entrusted to Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sandcreek-Azalia Friends Church or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana through the funeral home.
