Top-seeded The Rockpile will play No. 5-seed Our Name Is Earl, and second-seeded Monsters of Rock will face No. 3-seed CCA Kutters in today’s semifinals of the Columbus Broomball League.
The Rockpile advanced with a 7-0 shutout of Slappin’ Balls. Matt Street scored three goals, while Stephanie Pigneri added two and Todd Houchin and Brent Gordon each added one.
Our Name Is Earl edged Yoopers 1-0. Tom Kareus scored the game’s lone goal.
Monsters of Rock downed Hansons 4-0. Rob Jones had two goals, and Greg Thomas and Tom Kubat each added one.
CCA Kutters topped Flying Zambonis 6-0. Scott Herron scored three goals, and Tim Walton, Dave Dickinson and Ellie Lutz all added one.
The consolation and championship matches will be March 26.
SWIMMING
Six Club Olympians win
Six Club Olympia swimmers won at least one event in the 2017 Southeast Indiana Divisional Championship at Columbus North High School.
Erica Samuel won the Girls Open 1,650-yard freestyle and achieved her first cut for Senior State, and her 1,000 split in that race also was good enough to make the state cut. She also finished second in the 500 freestyle, third in the 200 freestyle and 400 individual medley, sixth in the 200 backstroke and 10th in the 100 freestyle.
Maggie Johnson won the Girls 12-and-under 100 freestyle and 500 freestyle, making Age-Group state cuts in both, along with the 50 freestyle, where she finished second. She also finished second in the 50 butterfly and 200 freestyle and fourth in the 200 IM.
Olivia Morlok won the Girls 14-and-under 200 IM, making the state cut. She also finished third in the 100 butterfly and 200 breaststroke and fifth in the 100 breaststroke.
Karlie Brown won the Girls Open 100 butterfly and finished fifth in the 200 IM. Nalanie Cortez won the Girls 14-and-under 400 IM, making the Senior State cut.
Brady Beyer won the Boys 12-and-under 100 butterfly, making the Age-Group State cut. He also finished second in the Boys 14-and-under 400 IM and fifth in the 200 breaststroke and fourth in the 12-and-under 200 freestyle.
Pratt Badve took second in the Boys 12-and-under 50 backstroke, making the Age-Group State cut. He also took third in the 50 backstroke, fifth in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke, seventh in the 200 IM and 11th in the 100 freestyle.
Matt Stuckwisch finished second in the Boys Open 50 freestyle and third in the 100 backstroke. Ayush Panda took second in the Boys 14-and-under 500 freestyle and 200 backstroke and seventh in the 200 breaststroke.
Riddhi Garg finished third in the Girls 14-and-under 100 backstroke, fourth in the 200 IM, sixth in the 200 backstroke, seventh in the 200 freestyle, eighth in the 100 freestyle and ninth in the 50 freestyle. Blake Day took fifth in the Boys 14-and-under 100 backstroke, ninth in the 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle, 10th in the 500 freestyle and 13th in the 100 freestyle.
Aidan McAlister finished sixth in the Boys 14-and-under 100 backstroke and eighth in the 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle. Christopher Lee took sixth in the Boys 14-and-under 200 backstroke.
Panda, Day, Lee and McAlister finished second in the Boys 13-14 200 freestyle relay.
Sydney Morlok finished fifth in the Girls 12-and-under 100 butterfly, 200 IM and 500 freestyle; eighth in the 200 freestyle and 14th in the 100 freestyle. Danielle Preston took eighth in the Girls 10-and-under 50 backstroke, 10th in the 200 freestyle and 11th in the 100 backstroke.
Alison Clauss was 10th in the Girls 10-and-under 200 IM, 11th in the 200 freestyle and 13th in the 100 backstroke. Clauss, Preston, Maddie Beyer and Sanna Kulkarni finished sixth in the Girls 10-and-under 200 freestyle relay.
Arjun Bhadoria took 10th in the 12-and-under 50 breaststroke while swimming in his first Divisional Championships.
Donner swimmer takes 12th
Donner Swim Club’s Hudson Elwood finished 12th in the 50 breaststroke in the Boys 10-and-under division at last weekend’s Age Group State Championships.
Elwood also took 14th in the 100 freestyle. He was 18th in the 100 breaststroke and 26th in the 200 freestyle.
BOWLING
Bowler rolls 290 game
Steve Phillips recorded a 290 to lead Senior Men’s League action. John Zieleniuk had the high series (820). Wildcats posted the team high handicap series (3,041) and lead the team standings at 169-63.
Clint Million notched the men’s high game (279) and series (756) in the Wednesday Night Mixed League. Tanya Hiday had the women’s high game (244), and Shannon Antcliff tallied the women’s high series (590). C.B.C. No. 1 had the team high game (904) and series (2,608), and C.B.C. No. 2 leads the team standings at 158-66.
Tracy Wehmiller and Jordan Gray tied for the high game (278), and Gray rolled the high series (746) in the Tuesday Night Men’s League. Gray’s Pro Shop had the team high game (1,275) and series (3,663) and leads the team standings at 172-62.
In the Sunday Night Mixed League, Joshua Hayes recorded the men’s high game (279), and Michael Cook had the men’s high series (736). Kerry Walker posted the women’s high game (247), and Courtney Barker had the women’s high series (672). Ziggies notched the team high game (951) and series (2,742), and Here We Go Again leads the team standings at 124-76.
