Robotics team competing this weekend

High school students on the Columbus FIRST Robotics GalacTech team will compete in the last of three district competitions in a bid to qualify for the state championships.

After the first two district meets, the GalacTech team ranks 11th in the state.

The Columbus team is among 37 that will compete Friday and Saturday at Perry Meridian High School, 401 W. Meridian School Road, Indianapolis. Opening ceremonies will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday and at 9 a.m. Saturday. The event is open to the public, free of charge. It will also be streamed live at indianafirst.org.

The Columbus team is attempting to qualify for the April 6-8 state finals in Huntington.

Founded by inventor Dean Kamen in 1989, FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) seeks to inspire an appreciation of science and technology in youth. IndianaFIRST is the Indiana-based affiliate of FIRST and brings programming to students in kindergarten through high school.
