Gerald L. Dix, 96, of Columbus, passed from this life at 2:12 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at his home.
Mr. Dix retired form Cummins Engine Company in 1982, where he had worked for 42 years. He was a member of East Columbus United Methodist Church and was man of the year with Housing Partnership Inc.
He was an Army veteran of WWII, serving with the 94th signal battalion.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Rev. Charles Aigner. Family and friends may call from 12:30 p.m. to time of service Friday. Burial will be at Westport Cemetery with Military Honors presented by the Greensburg American Legion Post #129.

Mr. Dix was born Dec. 30, 1920, in Bartholomew County. He was the son of Ruby T. and Lizzie Crowhorn Dix.
He married Georgia M. Coffey on Dec. 30, 1943.
Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Georgia; his children, Jacqueline L. (Russell) Thackery of Florida, Michael (Sue) Dix of Indianapolis and Patricia D. Wessel of Columbus; grandchildren, Ross (Stephanie Grossman) Thackery, Paul Michael (Kae) Dix, Shalah (Matthew) Noblitt and Sterling Wessel; and great-grandchildren, Alex, Anthony and Haruki Dix and Riley and Sierra Thackery.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Albert T. Dix; sister, Dorothy Dix; infant children, Freddie and Glenda Marlene Dix; and a son, Billy J. Dix.
