Woman accused of stealing trailer

Columbus police arrested a local woman after she was seen driving a vehicle with a stolen trailer.

Susan M. Coomer, 45, 1819 Hiker Trace, was arrested on charges of auto theft and possession of marijuana, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

The arrest was made after Columbus police officer Travis Harbaugh checked the license plate of a black trailer being pulled by a minivan at 12:20 a.m. Wednesday on Gladstone Avenue near State Street, Harris said.

When he checked the vehicle identification number on the trailer, Harbaugh confirmed the trailer had been reported stolen in Greensburg and that the plate belonged to another vehicle.

Harbaugh made contact with Coomer inside a store and arrested her, Harris said. When Coomer was searched, a small amount of marijuana was found in her jacket, Harris said.

Coomer was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail where her bond was set at $11,000, but she was released on the probation department protocol which allows certain defendants to be released from jail without posting bail.
