Long jumper places 6th

BLOOMINGTON — Columbus North senior Mitchell Burton leaped 20 feet, 11 1/2 inches Saturday to finish sixth in the long jump in the big-school division of the Hoosier State Relays, the unofficial state indoor track and field meet.

North’s Hunter Wolford took eighth in the shot put at 50-9 1/4. Coleman Tennyson fouled on all three of his attempts.

Triston Perry finished 14th in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.56 seconds. Perry, J.D. Harris, Cortez Bandy and Burton were 17th in the 4×200 relay in 1:33.65.

Columbus East’s lone entrant, T.C. O’Neal no-heighted in the high jump.

Jennings County’s Kayla Truesdell finished ninth in the big-school girls division in the shot (38-11 1/2). North’s Maura VanDeventer took 22nd in the long jump (14-7).

In the small-school division, Brown County’s Job Lawson, Isaiah Keefauver, Jackson McPheeters and Wyatt Wyman finished fourth in the distance medley (10:45.23). Keefauver took sixth in high jump (6-2).

The Eagles’ Maddy Fields finished fifth in the girls pole vault (10-3). Kathleen McCann, Maddy Westcott, Vivien Crimmins and Elly Wertz took seventh in girls 4×200 relay (1:50.98). Crimmins was 13th in the 60 hurdles (9.93) and tied for 16th in high jump (4-10), and Wertz finished 15th in the 60 (8.23).
