Rockpile, Monsters of Rock to meet for broomball title

Championship matchup set

Top-seeded The Rockpile and second-seeded Monsters of Rock will meet for the Columbus Broomball championship today after posting shutout wins in last week’s semifinals.

Rockpile routed fifth-seeded Our Name Is Earl 8-0. Matt Street and Todd Houchin each scored two goals, and Ryan Ingalls, Stephanie Pigneri, Tyler Houchin and Rickey Hooten all had one.

Monsters of Rock beat third-seeded CCA Kutters 3-0. Ben Eckhart netted two goals, and Ken Douglas had the other tally.

CCA Kutters and Our Name is Earl will play in the consolation game at 4:45 p.m. today. The title game will follow at 5:45 p.m.

SWIMMING

Athletes net top finishes

Several Club Olympia and Donner Swim Club athletes competed in last weekend’s Senior State Championships in Indianapolis.

Club Olympia finished 21st as a team, led by a 10th-place performance in the Girls High-Point Award standings from Rachel Sabotin. Sabotin, who was the second-highest scoring 15-year-old, placed fourth in the 1,650-yard freestyle, fifth in the 1,000 freestyle, sixth in the 200 freestyle, 10th in the 400 individual medley, 13th in the 500 freestyle and 15th in the 200 butterfly.

Sabotin, Karlie Brown, Nalanie Cortez and Erica Samuel teamed to finish 15th in the 800 freestyle relay, 18th in the 400 freestyle relay, 30th in the 200 freestyle relay and 33rd in the 400 medley relay. Cortez took 28th in the 50 freestyle and 34th in the 1,000 freestyle, while Brown was 36th in the 200 butterfly and Samuel finished 36th in the 1,000 freestyle.

Club Olympia athletes achieved personal bests in 34 of their 38 swims.

For Donner, Darby Coles finished 12th in the girls 200 freestyle, 16th in the 500 freestyle, 17th in the 100 freestyle, 30th in the 50 freestyle, 47th in the 200 IM and 50th in the 100 backstroke.

Betsy King took 24th in the 500 freestyle, 26th in the 200 freestyle, 38th in the 100 freestyle, 60th in the 50 freestyle and 63rd in the 200 IM.

Evan Patterson finished 17th in the boys 200 freestyle, 33rd in the 100 freestyle and 50 freestyle and 36th in the 100 butterfly. Jared Carroll was 31st in the 100 backstroke.

Bowler sweeps honors

Courtney Barker rolled the women’s high game (236) and series (626) in the Sunday Night Mixed League.

Skylar Plumm had the men’s high game (265), and Chris Davis recorded the men’s high series (709). The Yard Barbours had the team high game (979), and Seth’s Supporters posted the team high series (2,817). Independents and Here We Go Again are tied atop the team standings at 130-78.

In the Tuesday Night Men’s League, Dave Mikels had the high game (286), and David Loy notched the high series (774). Clifty Creek Golf Club had the team high game (1,284) and series (3,664), and Gray’s Pro Shop leads the team standings at 176-56.

Clint Million tallied the men’s high game (279), and Christopher Harrison had the men’s high series (744) in the Wednesday Night Mixed League. Carolyn Baldwin rolled the women’s high game (215), and Shannon Antcliff had the women’s high series (580). Bush’s Market recorded the team high game (974) and series (2,610), and C.B.C. No. 1 leads the team standings at 160-72.
