Area group urging review of meddling in elections

A grassroots group in Bartholomew County is part of an organized effort urging the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee to establish an independent, bipartisan commission to investigate the role foreign powers played in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

Bartholomew County Indivisible member Steve Schoettmer said he will personally deliver a letter at 11 a.m. Tuesday to Sen. Todd Young’s office in Indianapolis with the petition containing the signatures of all the residents from Indiana who have requested a non-partisan, independent investigation into Russian involvement in U.S. elections, according to a news release.

The 21 senators who serve on the Foreign Relations Committee will receive a letter signed by representatives of nearly 200 groups, the news release stated.

Bartholomew County Indivisible formed earlier this year to air concerns about the environment, women’s issues such as funding for Planned Parenthood and President Trump’s executive order banning travel into the United States from some predominantly Muslim countries.
