Gavin Freed

Gavin Todd Freed, 58, passed away on March 15, 2017, in Cypress, Texas.

Gavin was born Aug. 21, 1958, in Columbus, to William and Diane (Wensing) Freed. He graduated from Columbus East High School in 1976 and went on to attend The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, where he graduated with a B.S. in biology in May 1980. Gavin married Marisue Buthman on Oct. 20, 1984. Gavin graduated in 1986 with a masters in electrical engineering from Purdue University and, after graduation, worked for E.I. DuPont in Brevard, North Carolina, from July of 1986 to October of 1989. In October 1989, he worked with his family at Twinhawk Tractor and Equipment in West Lafayette until 1998. Gavin worked for Wabash National in West Lafayette and, in 2001, started working for Caterpillar in Peoria, Illinois. In 2003, he transferred to Caterpillar Global Petroleum in Houston, Texas, where he worked until December of 2015.

Gavin is survived by his wife, Marisue (Sue); sons, William (Billy), Jason and Evan; father, William (Bill) Freed; brothers and sisters, LiseĢ (Mike) Maddox, Derek (Michelle) Freed, Deidre (Glenn) Eldridge and Kieran Freed; mother-in-law, Jane Buthman; brother and sisters-in-law, Mark Buthman, Pat Pellicane and Joanne (Kenneth) Champagne; and six nieces and 10 nephews.

Gavin was preceded in death by his mother, Diane (Wensing) Freed.

Memorial servics for Gavin will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Eaton Hall, Brownsburg. Calling will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Following the service, there will be a celebration of Gavin’s life at the home of Deidre and Glenn Eldridge in Brownsburg.
