SUV hits BCSC bus carrying high school students

A Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. school bus transporting 12 students was struck by a Toyota SUV at 12:35 p.m. today.

Neither the drivers nor the students were injured in the crash, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Before the crash, the bus was traveling north on Maple Street when it approached the intersection at 25th Street, Harris said.

It appears that a SUV, that was traveling east on 25th Street, disregarded a red traffic signal and struck the bus behind the driver’s seat, Harris said.

Students on the bus were high school-age. Further information about the accident is expected to be released later today or Thursday.
